The Deck That Love Built

Rick’s Custom Fencing and Decking in partnership with Make-A-Wish Oregon and United Way is proud to announce the completion of their second donated backyard project: The Deck That Love Built! The Newstone Family in Salem, OR are some of the loveliest people you will meet, giving selflessly to their communities and their incredible daughter. In need of an outdoor space for their physically challenged, but incredibly tenacious and curious daughter, the Newstones turned to Make A Wish to help them fund this project. After complications with permits and engineering which meant Make-A-Wish could not provide this wish in full, Rick’s decided to step up and take on the whole project with the help of their vendors! The result is this incredible deck and cover that tripled their outdoor living space, and gave them a covered area larger than their living room to spend quality time as a family outside.

This project marks the second time that Rick’s has helped to facilitate a Wish for a deserving child. Last year’s project provided a backyard upgrade for Tennyson and his family in Sherwood Oregon. Their dream of having a space where Tennyson could safely be outside in a covered area while his brother played, was out of reach until Make-A-Wish and Rick’s were able to grant their wish complete with a new deck and cover, and new fence that almost doubled the size of their yard!

Over the past year, Rick’s has donated nearly $60,000 to charitable organizations and those in need, along with fencing and decking materials, hundreds of toys as part of their Annual Rick’s Toy Drive, and has provided kits of essential items to over 100 families in the Portland area. Their partnerships give long lasting support and promotion to the organizations they work with, making their donations go farther than just writing a check.
