The Willamette Valley Pie Company makes it a point to make the community and tourists alike feel like family.
What started as a small cannery-style operation run by the Gerald Roth family, who had been growing berries in Salem for three generations, segued into an operation where the family owned business could use their high quality fruit more productively.
In 2001, the family purchased an existing local pie company that was known for having ‘pie as good as Grandma’s.’
Since its founding, the Willamette Valley Pie Company has kept those original, all-natural recipes using simple ingredients as well as maintaining the high standards the previous business had for its delicious tasting pies. This formula keeps families from around the state and beyond returning year after year for more.
In 2009, the Willamette Valley Pie Company created its now well-known retail Farm Store on the property, adding to the fruit processing plant and the original bakery. The store is a well-known stop for fresh frozen fruit and other baking staples.
Since adding the store, the bakery has seen more people visit the facility. “It is the brand’s home which is why … it is such a fun, and familiar family destination,” said Jaimie Beaton, brand manager of the company. Visiting the beloved pie company's original place of baking adds an extra aspect of personal and family enjoyment.
It’s also an integral part of the community.
“The support and brand loyalty of the community to our products as well as visiting our local farm store has been extremely important to the company,” said Beaton. “It’s wonderful and enriching to hear feedback and get ideas from those we live next to.”
While at WVPC, families can tour the berry fields in the summer while enjoying a slice of pie a la mode. There are also child friendly activities as well as fun for all ages. During the nice-weather seasons, the outdoor recreation and playground area on the pie company’s property allow kids to blow off steam and enjoy themselves while adults savor a piece of pie or other pastry of their choice such as a cobbler. All these aspects of the Willamette Valley Pie Company are a great way for people to stay connected with the valley’s reputation for fine fruit.
Visitors from across state lines come to enjoy the Willamette Valley Pie Company’s family friendly atmosphere and all natural unique pies. They enjoy such favorites as Marionberry, cherry, artisan peach raspberry, and the classic American apple.
“From berry picking and the hot-dog stand during the summer to attending holiday markets in the city and bringing in local small businesses for holiday events at our very own Farm Store” keep people connected, Beaton said.
Being family focused and family owned have been the guiding principles for the Willamette Valley Pie Company since its beginning and the company plans for it to stay that way for generations to come.
